A sprint through Bayeaux

The nearest city to Brecy is Bayeaux. It is renowned for being home to the Bayeaux Tapestry, an almost 70 meter long piece of embroidered linen that tells the story of William the Conqueror invading England and why. It also has a cathedral, a museum of art and history, a museum for the Battle of Normandy in WWII, and is very close to the actual Normandy Beaches of the war and their related cemeteries. Bayeaux was one of the few Normandy cities not to have been damaged in the war, so all its charming super-old buildings are still around.

This is a super huge Plane Tree outside the Cathedral. Because I like trees.

Monsieur Didier Wirth and his wife Barbara own Le Chateau de Brecy. They are delightful individuals and when they are here at Brecy, I get to hang out with them! I was asking about how to get into Bayeaux on the weekends at dinner on Saturday night, and Mr. Wirth offered to drive me into town himself the next day. What I didn't expect was a guided tour of the art and history museum, a drive around town to see the town's architecture, and a personal narration of the history of the Bayeaux Tapestry. He must have read quite a lot about it, or have an impeccable memory to be able to tell me all that he did. He bought me a little book of it afterwards so I could read more about it. I also got to poke my head into the cathedral, but there was a mass going on and I didn't want to interrupt.

The one thing my story doesn't convey, is that we were only in Bayeaux for 2 hours. Talk about a sprint through history!
